About
Whose Broad Stripes™
Whose Broad Stripes is owned and operated by Kelly Walker, a Marine Corps Veteran with a, “no such thing as overkill” attitude, and a proud patriot. All products are designed and/or hand-crafted by him. Kelly’s background in product development, prop building, video and photo production, and graphic arts has pushed him to become a jack-of-all-trades with an “every problem has a creative solution” mentality.
Whose Broad Stripes™ started when Kelly’s wife, Janeen, asked for a large wooden American flag for Christmas in 2021. As with any project, the first thought was how can he do it better than what’s already out there. The answer was to make it like a piece of fine furniture but maintain a rustic charm. The flag was panel glued like fine cabinetry, flame hardened (we don’t burn flags here) to bring out the natural grain, stained with a color that was refined by Kelly, as there weren’t any colors readily available perfect enough for the American flag, urethane sealed, and bordered with a welded steel frame (again, overkill isn’t a real thing). The end result was the beginning of an obsession with creating art based around the most beautiful beacon of freedom ever created! And Whose Broad Stripes™ was born. OORAH!
Whose Broad Stripes™
The name “Whose Broad Stripes” has more than one meaning. The line itself comes directly from our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner." Written as a tribute to the greatest symbol of freedom and triumph ever created by man.
It’s also a reference to the physical wounds, and unfathomable pain and suffering Jesus Christ was willing to endure to save us all. Isaiah 53:5 says “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed”.
Few would sacrifice so much for all of us as the Soldier, Sailor, Airman and Marine who’ve fought, bled, and died for our freedom under the Stars and Stripes, and Jesus Christ who loved us all so much he was willing to be tortured and give his life on the cross to save our souls.
